March 2024 - What Are You Listening To?

There’s a good chance you may not be aware that our senses are saturated with music on a daily basis. Everywhere we go - whether it’s the grocery store, the car, the gas station, the gym - there’s music being played! Think back to one hundred years ago, when recording/playback technology was in its nascent stages. If you wanted music at your event or in your home, or at the market, you created your own live music.

Since we have the power to create our own environment, with more musical tools at our disposal than ever, we can fill our spaces with beautiful music. It takes almost no effort at all. I’ve selected a handful of playlists from Apple Music (requires a paid subscription) or Spotify (free streaming, premium requires a paid subscription). Put one of these on when you’re cooking, or driving somewhere, doing office tasks or household chores, or simply reading and relaxing. Not only will you lift your spirits and shift the mood, you’ll immerse your ears with gentle sounds. The more you make music a part of your daily life, the more fluent you (and your student) will become in the language of music.
