May 2024 - Home Stretch!
We’ve made it! Well, almost. About a month until the end of the studio program year, schedules are more packed than ever, the weather is getting nicer…which means it’s going to be a challenge to fit everything in. Fear not - I have created a practice challenge to incentivize students who may need a little extra boost to keep them motivated!
The challenge is this: from the day students first received their calendar (they were handed out last week), they must log at least 15 minutes daily of some sort of piano activity. Ideally this is spent practicing piano, but I understand that reality happens and some days you’re just not home. Therefore, alternative activities can include:
Listening to piano music (see March’s blog post to get you started)
Watching piano videos
Playing music theory games on Rhythm Swing or Flashnote Derby
Completing theory worksheets
Sight reading new music is also an acceptable activity
Students bring their practice calendars to their lesson each week (lesson days are a “free space”), receive a sticker from me, and may choose a prize from the prize basket. At the end of the challenge, which is our recital on June 15th, I’ll collect completed calendars and issue a $5 gift card to Moonlight Creamery for each student who logged DAILY PIANO TIME.
This challenge is OPTIONAL. If you or your student has questions, please reach out. I’m excited to reward hard work with ice cream! Added bonus - the extra practice time will benefit their recital performances and help them feel more confident, because they’ll be better prepared.
