April 2025 - Recital Season is Approaching!
Our annual piano studio recital is scheduled for Saturday, June 14th at 2:00pm, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fairport. Over the next few weeks, I’ll begin speaking with students about possible recital pieces. While I encourage my students to play all types of music during the academic year, a recital performance showcases the growth each student has achieved over the past several months. The repertoire we choose together is a reflection of their hard work both during lessons and at home. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, all students are expected to participate in the recital in some manner.
Here are a few items to plan for:
1) Students and their families must plan to stay for the duration of the recital. We’ll have a post-recital photograph, awards presentation and reception after everyone has performed.
2) Students should dress nicely - please no athletic wear, jeans, torn clothing, flip flops or crocs, please. This is a great time to pull out that special occasion dress or shirt and tie!
3) Most pianists will perform their recital music from memory. Exceptions include duets and/or ensemble pieces, and students with special learning circumstances.
Finally, here are some preparation tips taken from “Music And Theory” - a website that offers sheet music, music theory materials, and pedagogical resources for music teachers. These recital ideas are terrific not only for piano recitals, but any type of performance opportunity!
